A portrait of Torpedo, a great white shark born with the X-Gene (same thing that give X-Men type mutants their powers). The gene gave him the anthro characteristics, and the ability to walk on land. He's one of my characters on an online RPG known as Hero's Dreams.

This drawing took about 3 weeks to complete, since I couldn't sit down and work on it for any length of time or I would get frustrated with it. I'm really happy with the figure and the anatomy (I used several photo references for the pose and anatomy) and the coloration on Torp himself. Things I'm not pleased with- the water, the shadows on the dock. Other than that, it turned out how I was hoping it would.

Critique welcome, but please be easy on it. I've put in way too much time on it to get it slammed. Tips on shadows and rendering water welcomed.

Aprox. 9x12, mechanical pencil on Bristol with a little 6B thrown in for depth.

That is a really beautiful drawing. I've never seen a shark anthro before. The design of the character and the pose are really striking. I really like the anatomy, details, and contrasts. Nicely done.

Oh it's very nice shark! I like the muscle body, cool face, tail and the pose. I like the water surface too:D

Wow, this looks great!! Anthro sharks are tricky with their fin placement but this looks very organized. I can see him swimming side to side just like a normal shark would. :)

Amazing details in both the anatomy and background.

I can't really help with the water other than to say get alot of refrences (and maybe add some brighter highlights to the water right next to the dock) but the shadows seem ok other than the fact that they appear to sharply defined and to dark for the slightly overcast look the rest of the pic has going...

I'd like to appologise now for any/all grammer errors in this post...
...Because the random says so...

The anatomy looks good! The knee on the right leg looks a little off compared to angle of the leg. I think a quick smooth down of the inner calf and more bulge on the outer calf area will fix it straight up.

Otherwise, the water looks great! Better than I could do!...And have I told you lately that you are the GODESS of shark drawing?

The anthro/shark combined anatomy is a really wicked effect. I like the way that you incorporated both fins, tail and arms and legs. The rendering on his body is positively gorgeous, and I'm now insanely jealous of your mechanical pencil drawing skills. BOOYAH! :worship:

Hmmm... On the water, the only thing I could really suggest is to fade it out even more as you go toward the deep background, and punch it dark in the foreground so that it would read well against the dock. The dock itself I think looks very good - the texture of old wood is quite apparent.

The light source looks somewhat muted - like there's a haze of cloud in the sky that diffuses the sunlight. Torp has a shadow that indicates full, bright sunlight since the shadow is so well-defined. But perhaps I'm reading incongruity into the picture when none is there. The shape and placement look right; it's just a little too sharp-edged, perhaps.

Done babblin'!

Really great job! Let me say that before I say anything about critique.

As to the water, I think you did a swell job there, too, particularly in the reflections of the coastline. The water to the bottom right seems a little murkier towards reasoning, but I think that is only because it seems to clash with the appearance of the water behind it.

The shadows do seem a little awkward. If we fall the path of light down to his left hand and its shadow, then the light source is at about a forty-five degree angle from him. If we take the right hand, it is almost directly above him. I think that may be almost the only major problem of the shadows too.

Kudos!

It's not easy being insane. But I'm willing to do what it takes...
Besides without people like me, all the normal people would lead such boring lives.

NEAR PHOTO REALISM:::
Being able to see the pic from near infancy, to the piece you now present is marvelous. I truily admire your touch with the blending sticks. You have brought your artwork to the next level of realism. As to the background, lets talk in person and share ideas.

Absolutely fantastic. I've just gotten broadband today and I've gone through over 500 deviations so far; this outclasses all of them.

You are extremely talented. Just....wow.
