Please view this one full size, if you can stand waiting on the loadtime. I crunched it as far as I could, but I was losing detail and couldn't keep it within my usual '600' rule.

I was inspired to do this piece while on my volunteer shift at the aquarium. One of our nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum) was laying on top of a half-tunnel, so I could observe him for some time. He reminded me of a liabrarian or a scolar for some reason, and thus the idea was born. Nurse sharks, while common, are not ones usually anthro'd, because they're not your stereotypical toothy shark.

The piece itself evolved into a study of light and shadow, of form, of mood, and of anatomy. The lamp, which was inspired by my brother in spirit Kyfhon, was to be the main light, and give me a definate lightsource to work off of. It's also an unusual, challenging angle to work with, something out of the ordinary for what I do. I used the light position tto help form a mood, quiet, yet almost inviting was what I was going for. Finally was the anatomy study, I wanted to force myself to draw hands in a couple more difficult positions for me to master.

I would love easy, constructive crits on this piece, as it was partially done as a study. I'm mainly looking for if I managed to accomplish what I was trying for- mood, anatomy, lighting, composition and volume/depth. But please, don't break my fragile little ego. :>

Keep killing - Bonsai 4ever :)
It looks good. I like the textures you did in ink the best i think. The detail the background really makes this work!! As for you hand study, they look good. But the really are not the focus for me on this.
Heh, looks like he belongs in the underwater city of Atlantis or somethin' near that.

I really enjoy the idea and character this piece has to it. Very natural look. The lighting looks nicely done (spiffy idea for the light-source). I like the fact that you stippled (I think that is the term used for the mini-dots) in some parts.

Looks very bi-pedal. I don't wanna criticize, 'cause that is your representation of a shark anthro (And it is hella-awesome, Btw). Mine would just have a more hunched down, hunkered look, like it moves on all fours (This is if I drew a anthro shark). Personal opinion. :)

But, overall, this is one massively awesome piece. ^^ Nice Job. *Pants an' wags*

I'd like to appologise now for any/all grammer errors in this post...
...Because the random says so...
Bad idea to tell me to critique, but here I go:

Comments: Very good overall! The design of the anthro was near flawless, so I doubt I'll even need to comment on it. Probably more for the background.

Critique: The perspective is good as a whole, but not in parts. Take the stack of books on the left. The bottom book and the book above it have different lines of perspective and I can't see it as the bottom book simply having been rotated.
I also noticed something that while not really an error or even something that needs changing is really boggling my mind. Look at the second shelf from the top on the far left. Because of the way you have shaded the back of the bookcase, it appears to me to be a part of the book (as though the cover were turned out and out of perspective)

Besides without people like me, all the normal people would lead such boring lives.
Thanks for the comments, Y'all!

RayneDancer: I've seen a couple anthro'd sharks that are more quadraped than biped, and they look more like mutated animals to me than anthros. 'Course that could'a just been the style. My regular wereshark characters both stalk n all fours to keep their profiles low, however, when it's needed. I think you've inspired me to do another work!

Feyhroqs: Thanks for the notes! Yeah, the stack of books on the left is screwed up, and I don't doubt there are a few errors in the bookshelf. It was a huge challenge for me, as perspective, while I understand it, is a challenge for me to actually implament. I think that's what took me the longest time on this piece, was tweaking the books, table, and bookcase.

Thanks again!

By all means don't keep it under 600! A lot of your peices are very detailed, and deserve to have a higher resolution. The inking is very good, and the anatomy looks great. I really just love your anthro sharks. :)
O.o This one is beautiful! I love how you shaded it, and the composition is lovely!

Nurse shark? Bloody brilliant! I love originality!

Seriously, I love the Atlantis-esque border, and the subtle shading is just awesome. :worship:
